About Pivot Theatre

Pivot Theatre produces and presents high quality, uncommon theatre for Yukon audiences and develops local artists and their work.

Founded in 1979 as Nakai Theatre, Pivot has a rich history of theatre making in Whitehorse and beyond.

Jacob Zimmer

Born in Cape Breton, raised in Halifax, and trained in Vancouver, Jacob now lives in Whitehorse after 15 years in Toronto. Along with being the Artistic Director of Pivot Theatre, he’s the founding director of Small Wooden Shoe. He also has collaborated with Public Recordings,  Dancemakers,  Secret Theatre, and others. Jacob holds a BFA Theatre from Simon Fraser University’s School for the Contemporary Arts and an MFA in Theatre Directing from University of British Columbia. He trained in Viewpoints and composition with Anne Bogart and SITI Company, interned with The Wooster Group, participated in creation workshops with Jonathan Burrows, and participated in many more curious activities.

Norah Paton
Managing Artistic Producer

Originally from Ottawa, and trained in Montreal and the UK, Norah Paton now works as the Managing Artistic Producer for Pivot Theatre in Whitehorse. 

Norah's practice spans a broad spectrum, working regularly as a collaborator, technician, producer and manager. She is committed to fostering safer and more accessible artistic spaces, often working in harm reduction for events, and in community safety planning and training. She has worked across genres of live performance, mostly in small organizations and with a focus on working outside, or in unconventional spaces. Beyond producing and community building, Norah also creates and performs her own work.

Norah holds a BFA Theatre Performance from Concordia University and an MA in Collaborative Theatre Production and Design from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
