Dear Star Trek (Tuesday)

  • Old Firehall 1105 Front St Whitehorse, YK Canada (map)

Christine Genier – broadcaster, journalist, writer, poet, performer, and language and culture worker – takes us on a journey through the pleasures, impact and obligations in pop culture media from her perspective as a fan and Indigenous woman.

After presentations with Rumble Theatre in Vancouver and Lodge Pole Arts in Wolfe Island, we bring the performance home to Whitehorse!

A life long Trekkie, Christine mixes her powerful and humourous storytelling with memes in a fun, teasing breakdown of the television that makes us, Star Trek, and representation.

Christine Genier is a Wolf Clan citizen of the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. She is a broadcaster, journalist, writer, poet, performer, and language and culture worker. Since 1995 Christine has been navigating a career spanning northern theatre, journalism, broadcasting, writing, spoken word and public speaking, and getting angry. She does this with honesty, humor, language and culture. Christine works to pass on her ancestral languages, Tageesh Koshé and Dawkwanjé (Southern Tutchone) and is also quite capable of schooling you in English and French. Christine has a passion for culture, whether ancient and ancestral or pop and futurism. She has recently returned to live theatre with the production of Dreaming Roots in Whitehorse, Yukon, and has works in progress with both Yukon Digital Theatre and Nakai Theatre in Whitehorse. Christine is a regular guest host with the popular podcast Auntie Up! (Makwa Creative, 2023)
