Pivot has been in conversations with the Yukon Arts Centre (YAC) for over a year about the future of the Old Fire Hall with the goal of increased access and activity in the space.

As you may have heard, YAC has decided not to apply to renew their agreement with YG. That means, as we understand, the space will be open to a Request for Proposals from the community in the fall.

We are even more committed to the Old Fire Hall as essential to Whitehorse’s cultural ecosystem and believe we can contribute.

Pivot is currently considering putting forward a proposal, in whatever form that takes, to take on that stewardship after March 31, 2027. With YAC’s commitment to leave the space with most of the current equipment, we could ensure a relatively smooth transition with no major disruption. And following that, improvement and further activation.

We can’t – and don’t want to – do this without collaboration, community support, and buy-in. We want the Old Fire Hall to continue as a community resource getting the care and attention it deserves. While there are things about our own programming that would benefit from stewarding the Old Fire Hall, those won’t take precedence over access, transparency and community use.

We’ll share some of the opportunities and needs we see ahead of time – based on our use of the space and participation in community meetings.

Also, if you can’t attend but have some thoughts you’d like to share, drop us an email and we’ll  bring them to the meeting or arrange time to chat.
